The chief executive of Amazon has said snapping up the Top Gear trio was a “very, very, very expensive” move for the e-commerce giant’s digital content offering.
Having adopted the former Top Gear team amid interest from a number of high-profile broadcasters in a 36 episode, £160m deal, the series will debut in 2016.
Bezos told the Telegraph that Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May were “worth a lot and they know it".
“We have a lot of things in the pipeline, which I think viewers in the UK and around the world are going to love, and I think Clarkson's new show is going to be one of those.
"I think we're in a golden age of television, so if you go back in time even just five years, you couldn't get A-list talent to do TV serials, or, if you could, it was a rare thing. But that's flipped completely."
To date, the name of the show has been kept tight under wraps by Amazon which is looking to attract subscribers to its £79 a year Prime service.
